Chakara Pongal


Rice-1 cup
Green gram(Cheruparippu)- 1/4 cup
Jaggery(Sharkkara)-1 1/2 cup
Milk-2 cups
Ghee-1/2 cup
Cloves(Grambu)- 4 nos
Nutmeg(Jathikka) powder – 1 tsp
Cashews 1/4 cup
Raisins(Onakka munthiri) -1/4 cup
Cardamom(Elakka)-4 nos
Edible camphor(Pacha karpooram)


1) Fry the rice and the green gram(moong
dhal) in a pan, till the colour of the dhal
starts to change.

2) Cook rice, dhal and milk along with 3
Cups of water, till the rice gets cooked.

3) Melt jaggery, by boiling it in a little

4) Mix the melted jaggery with the cooked rice.

5) Add ghee and keep stirring, until
everything blends well.

6) Fry cashews, raisins and cloves in little
ghee and add this to the above.

7)Pound cardamoms, edible camphor
and nutmeg and add this to the pongal.
