Coconut Chutney (Thengai Thigayal)

Ingredients

Red gram (Thuvaraparippu)- 1/2 cup
Coconut- 1 cup
Bengal gram(Kadalaparippu) -1/4 cup
Black gram (Uzhunnuparippu)- 1/4 cup
Tamarind(Puli) – A small lemon sized ball
Asafoetida(Kaayam) – A pinch
Dried red chillies – 5-6 nos or as reqd
Salt 1 tsp
Oil-2 tsp

Procedure

1)Dry roast red gram, chana dhal, black
gram, red chillies and asoefetida in
cooking oil.

2)Grind this mixture with water into a
thick paste.

3) Add coconut, tamarind and salt and
grind it for a few more seconds until all
the mixture blends into a smooth paste

Serve Coconut Chutney (Thengal
Thigayal) with steamed rice or can be
served with dosa(rice pan cakes)

Enjoy the Coconut Chutney (Thengai
Thigayal). Coconut Chutney is must for
dosa in south india.
